Nature as an Illusive Concept

The trails on the Milwaukee county grounds are a photographer’s dream. A yearly evolution for a variety of wildflowers and other plants can be seen as the seasons change.

The milkweed plant is a particularly good example. It displays a vibrant green in the spring, and then changes color during the summer as its pods grow and mature.

They darken and stiffen and then finally burst open when the time is right. The tiny red seeds float off, carried by fluffy white parachutes. The autumn wind is their friend as it transports these feathery bundles far and wide.

They fall to the welcoming soil and wait until spring when they can begin the cycle all over again.
